A wedding anniversary is a heartfelt way to remember the day a couple officially began their lives together. It should be celebrated in huge amounts! Especially in this day and age where it’s hard to find people who are married for long periods of time! But an anniversary is a way to reflect on what you’ve built and experienced together!
I also once heard that you probably don’t like each other very much in the first five years so just deal with it! And when you make it past that mark, CELEBRATE!
So on July 17th I celebrated my 5th wedding anniversary. It almost feels like we got married just yesterday. I know, I know… everyone says things like that, but seriously, where have the five years gone?! There have been good times and bad during those five years but we are still hanging in there. This year we celebrated with Chinese, a kids movie, and going to be early! But… maybe we can fit in another “celebration” before months end which got me to thinking about anniversary gifts… And honestly how important it is to celebrate the important and big happenings in our lives! We only live once, right?
The fifth year of being married lends itself to gifts of wood. From what I’ve read, traditionally a husband would present his wife with a piece of wood cut on the day of their anniversary. Then he would spend the next six months fashioning something from that wood. In today’s world, not all men are crafty carpenters or widdlers of wood but there are some really neat gift ideas these days that could fall into the wood category.
*If you have a yard, plant a tree and then over the years you can watch it grow. At some point, you can even probably carve your initials and anniversary date into it. This is something you do and can enjoy together!
*The wood signs are all the rage right now. Do one with a quote or one with your anniversary on it. She will really love this one.
*The wood sunglasses make for a really trendy and fun gift for him.
*This is sure to be a hit with him as well. Very different, unique, and something he can use everyday!
Wood bow tie
*Another find for him! If he’s a bowtie lover, then this is a piece he needs to add to his collection! Another piece that he will love!
*This is one that you can have personalized in any way… maybe a favorite quote, special coordinates, or just a special note. She can set this on her night stand for jewelry or other trinkets…
*Cutting boards are a great gift and you can both utilize them! Or, if you prefer, grab a fun one like this and use in your kitchen décor!
*Once you plant that tree, add a birdhouse to it’s limbs! I love the idea of decorative or useful birdhouse either hanging from branches or fixed to a fence. Everyone enjoys a little bird watching here and there.
*I don’t really use coasters, but sometimes I wish I did! These would be a really fun way to remember your day and save your furniture! Customize how you like and then enjoy for years to come!
These are just a few ideas from Etsy… but if Mr K is reading this, I’d really like a farm table!!! Which is also another idea for you all out there!
